  • Suspects abandon appeal in Eswatini; extradition process moves closer to completion. Minister says families deserve closure.
  • Eswatini authorities will finalise remaining procedures; further updates to follow. Cross-border cooperation is praised.
  • South African officials welcome progress; case advances toward trial at home. Public interest remains high.

The extradition of the two men accused of murdering South African rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane has moved a step closer to conclusion after authorities in Eswatini confirmed that the suspects have withdrawn their appeal.

For the families of the victims, this development brings new hope in a long quest for justice, one marked by heartbreak, uncertainty, and a slow journey through diplomatic channels.

Progress welcomed by the minister

Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mmamoloko Kubayi confirmed receiving the update from the National Directorate of Public Prosecutions on Thursday. The submission of a formal Notice of Abandonment signals the end of the suspects’ attempt to resist extradition. The Minister said the withdrawal brings extradition closer to finalization, offering renewed hope that the criminal process will soon take place in a South African court.

The extradition of Siyabonga Gezani Ndimande and Malusi Dave Ndimande has attracted public attention since their arrest earlier this year. Their alleged roles in the murders of AKA and Motsoane, who were killed outside a Durban restaurant in February 2023, shocked the nation and sparked widespread public interest in the investigation's progress.

Justice officials praised for collaboration

The minister expressed gratitude to South African law enforcement agencies and justice officials who have worked closely with their counterparts in Eswatini to move the matter forward. The statement emphasises the careful balance between urgency and the need for legal compliance across borders, a process that often tests everyone’s patience.

For now, the remaining steps of the extradition lie with authorities in Eswatini. They are expected to manage the procedural formalities and provide further updates as needed. The minister expressed confidence that the legal system will continue to fulfill its duties diligently.

“The minister looks forward to the successful extradition of the two suspects to South Africa so that they can face justice and the families of the victims can find closure,” the Ministry said.
