A newborn baby has reportedly been discovered abandoned on the icy streets of Sebokeng’s Zone 14 in the early hours of the morning on 10 June 2025.
The infant, believed to have spent most of the night exposed to freezing temperatures, was found alive by passersby on their way to work.
Local resident Dannyboy Isaac Seabi, one of the first on the scene, described the emotional moment. “We immediately alerted Emergency Management Services, and the child was taken to hospital. By the grace of God, the baby was alive, although extremely cold. It was a heartbreaking sight,” he said.
A viral plea for help
Moved by the encounter, Seabi posted about the incident on Facebook, calling for donations of baby clothing and essentials. The post quickly went viral, prompting widespread community concern and offers of support. “If anyone has clothes or necessities they can contribute, please reach out to me,” he wrote.
Seabi issued a strong message to the child’s parents: “Please stop having children if you will not be able to look after them. And if you do keep the child, do not be negligent.”
His words have sparked online discussion around reproductive responsibility, parenting under pressure, and the systemic failures that leave children at risk.
How community action can bridge systemic gaps
The incident has inspired Seabi to consider a lasting response. “I want to open an orphanage,” he said. “If I can get support and funding, I will make it happen.”
