A brutal murder motivated by insurance fraud has culminated in life imprisonment for Lizo Ntshoko, 50, and his accomplices, Zuko Ngudlane, 32, and Xolisa Galala Ngxeke, 38.

This case reveals a shocking betrayal within the family, as Lizo meticulously plotted the murder of his disabled older brother, Patrick Ntshoko, 62, affectionately known as “Nongalwana,” to cash in on two life insurance policies totaling R260,000. Under the guise of caregiving, Lizo took Patrick to a Capitec Bank to reactivate a dormant account and secretly arranged a funeral policy naming himself as the beneficiary. The policy added to an existing one valued at R30,000, further fueling the deadly plan.

The horrific crime took place on April 13, 2023. After a night of drinking, Lizo lured Patrick to a secluded area near Bonza Bay, where Ngudlane and Ngxeke lay in wait. In an act of unparalleled violence, Patrick was savagely stabbed to death. Just three days later, Lizo received the insurance payout and handed R10,000 to the assassins as payment for their grim services.

Despite their pleas of innocence, the Eastern Cape High Court in Eastern London relied on circumstantial evidence to convict the trio. Confessions made by Ngudlane to his girlfriend and by Ngxeke to his family exposed the calculated plot. State Advocate Luvuyo Vena presented a compelling case that highlighted Lizo’s betrayal of a brother who had generously supported him, even while relying on a state grant.

Adding to the outrage, Ngudlane, a parolee who had served 10 years for murder, reoffended in this shocking case. Eastern Cape Director of Public Prosecutions, Barry Madolo, expressed satisfaction with the life sentences, emphasizing that they send a strong message against the murder of unsuspecting relatives for financial gain.

“This case illustrates the devastating consequences of insurance fraud and reflects the judicial system’s zero tolerance for such heinous crimes,” said Madolo.
