I'm seeking help regarding a case I opened at Diepsloot Police Station.
Earlier last month I got stopped by the police officers while walking back home from work. They asked for my ID, which I told them I didn't carry with me. This was at around 10pm.
They searched me and put me in the van until 1am, and before they dropped me, I got searched. They took the money and all the other belongings I had and fled.
I reported this at their station, and a docket was opened with all the information, including the police van registration number. My case is still pending, and there has been no feedback whatsoever.
Is there any other way to go about this?
Dennys Ngoveni of Ngoveni Attorneys Inc says:
Escalate the issue to the Diepsloot Police Station commander first. Should there be no joy, refer the matter to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
Yusuf Abramjee, an anti-crime activist, advises:
Please go to the police station in question and ask to speak to the station commander. You may also write to the SAPS district as well as provincial commissioners.
