Police intercepted six Jetour T2 Hybrid SUVs worth R4.752 million near Colesberg in the Northern Cape after receiving intelligence about the vehicles travelling towards Pretoria.
The operation took place on Friday, 16 October 2026, after Crime Intelligence in the Western Cape alerted SAPS members in Colesberg to information about six white Jetour T2 Hybrid SUVs travelling from Beaufort West towards the town. Members of the Highway Patrol, Colesberg Visible Policing and Hanover SAPS responded to the information and positioned themselves along the identified route.
Police spotted the six vehicles approximately 35km from Colesberg. Each SUV had one male occupant who identified himself as the driver. According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the drivers told officers they were transporting the vehicles to an undisclosed destination in Pretoria.
Suspected fraudulent documents discovered
Further investigation led police to find documents inside the vehicles that appeared to be fraudulent. The case was escalated, with officers working alongside Crime Intelligence in the Western Cape to check the information.
According to SAPS, the investigation found the vehicles had likely been bought fraudulently. Police then impounded all six SUVs. Investigators also found that six vehicles of the same make had already been impounded in Beaufort West by Western Cape Crime Intelligence. This brought the total number of vehicles seized in connection with the investigation to 12.
The six SUVs seized in Colesberg have a total estimated value of R4.752 million. Police also seized 10 cell phones and documents believed to be fraudulent during the operation.
Six men arrested as investigation continues
Six case dockets relating to the possession of suspected stolen vehicles have been registered at Colesberg SAPS. The six male suspects, all South African citizens aged between 28 and 62, were arrested and detained for further investigation.
Acting Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner Major General Luntu Ngubelanga commended the officers involved for their swift response, vigilance and professionalism.
He said the operation demonstrated the importance of intelligence-led policing and cooperation between provinces. The rapid sharing of information had enabled officers to intercept the vehicles and apprehend the suspects.
The six suspects remain in police custody and are expected to appear in the Colesberg Magistrates’ Court soon.
