The North West Provincial Police Service has confirmed the arrest of a 26-year-old man accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend and attempting to kill his current girlfriend in Maubane.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng, praised the swift response of Makapanstad Police, who apprehended the suspect in the early hours of Friday, 22 August 2025, in Carousel View near Maubane.
The lifeless body of Kgaugelo Marota, 20, was discovered at a local tavernin Maubane village on Thursday, 21 August 2025, with multiple stab wounds. Emergency Medical Rescue Services declared her dead on the scene. Investigations revealed that the suspect then returned home, where he allegedly stabbed his 20-year-old current girlfriend multiple times. She was rushed to a local hospital and is receiving treatment.
Disturbingly, the suspect reportedly posted explanations of his actions on social media, exposing the public to the chilling details of his crimes.
The 26-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Temba Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 25 August 2025, facing charges of murder and attempted murder. Authorities have urged the community to remain vigilant and to report any information that may assist in the investigation.
