At just 18 years old, Njabulo Zulu, a remarkable young woman from Pretoria, has embarked on a journey filled with challenges, triumphs, and an indomitable spirit.

WATCH: Njabulo Zulu delivers a powerful and inspirational message for 2025.

Having faced bullying for "being dark like a shoe polish" and having "unusual" hair during her formative years, Zulu's story is one of resilience, empowerment, and unwavering faith. This past year, and now all grown up, Zulu wrote her matric at Soshanguve Secondary School and is awaiting final results. "I feel so blessed that God carried me through, and I was able to reach my destination," she stated. "When I was going through the phase of bullying, I thought my life would end just there, but with God on my side, I was able to succeed and overcome it all."

As she prepares to transition into the next exciting chapter of her life, Zulu plans to focus on serving God and expanding her literary ventures. She plans to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Language Practice at the University of Free State. Zulu managed to publish a book titled Ignite Your Purpose during her matric year.

Recognition of her dedication and achievements comes in the form of a nomination for the Inside Education 100 South African Shining Stars Awards. With the awards breakfast event set for 30 January 2025, Zulu is eager to take the stage once again. Her history is brimming with accolades, including her first public speaking award in Grade 7, where she excelled at a district competition.

Zulu’s debating prowess saw her team representing Gauteng at the National Road Safety School Debate, finishing in second place. She was also crowned best speaker at the Tsoseletsong Debate Competition and received recognition at various awards, including the Vita Basadi Awards and the Gauteng Women's Excellence Awards.

Beyond her academic and public speaking achievements, she also made waves in media. At just 12, she hosted a radio show at TUT FM, a platform she used to inspire others. As a passionate advocate for mental health awareness, she hosted a successful talk show on Soweto TV, titled Trusted Talks With Njabulo Zulu, which ran for two seasons. Acknowledging those who helped her along the way, she credits Kgomotso Mogale of LentsweTV Production House and Kgahliso Manenzhe, her wellness counsellor, for their invaluable support.

She holds the Fabulous Girl of the Year title, and was recognised in the Annual AfrICAN Children of the Year Awards. In addition, she was named the winner in the Pick n Pay School Club Heroes Awards.

When asked how she managed to juggle numerous activities while maintaining her academic performance, Zulu shared her secret: "Timetable! Make yourself a timetable where you set up everything and the timeframe you have to complete your tasks, and make sure you follow that timetable."

Recognised as a role model among her peers, Zulu reflects on the impact her journey has had on the youth in her community. "Some of my peers treat me differently; they are inspired by my work, and I give them hope that they too can achieve their goals," she explained.

As her new season unfolds, Zulu offers words of wisdom to those looking to carve their path: "For the new year, make sure you set up your goals and everything you want to achieve. Remember to focus on yourself and silence the noise of the world. Do not entertain negativity; concentrate on enriching your mind, body, and soul."
