The Legal Resources Centre(LRC) is tackling South Africa's digital divide head-on at Sierra Nevada Primary School in Lenasia South, Johannesburg.

Through an engaging workshop focused on essential digital literacy skills, the organisation is reinforcing its commitment to quality basic education while emphasising the critical role of digital technologies in modern learning.

During the hands-on workshop, participants openly shared their digital education challenges, including infrastructure limitations, device security concerns, gaps in teacher training, inconsistent internet connectivity, and varying levels of digital literacy amongst learners and educators.

A key focus of the workshop was empowering learners to harness social media platforms for educational purposes. The session covered essential topics such as identifying online predators, avoiding common scams, and preventing cyberbullying, encouraging learners to become responsible digital citizens.

To ensure lasting impact, the LRC distributed comprehensive resource guides containing practical tips, safety guidelines, and educational resource links. These guides serve as valuable reference tools for both educators and learners. The workshop's interactive approach yielded impressive results, with learners actively participating in discussions and demonstrating keen interest in applying their new digital skills.

The LRC extended its gratitude to Dale Abrahams, the principal of Sierra Nevada Primary School, and his dedicated team of teachers for their support in facilitating this important discussion.
