Overseer Gege Sono is a devoted servant of God whose life has been shaped by faith, discipline and a deep commitment to serving others. She accepted Jesus Christ at the age of 17 and has remained steadfast in her Christian walk ever since.
Raised in Rockville, Soweto, she became actively involved in the local Rea Leka Youth Club, where she discovered the importance of prayer, discipline and Christian fellowship. These formative years laid the spiritual foundation that would later shape her ministry and leadership.
After finishing high school, Overseer Sono, or MaBishop, went on to study at the University of Bophuthatswana, where she earned a degree in Public Administration. She started her professional career as an internal auditor in the Bophuthatswana government.
Her years in the corporate world gave her valuable organisational and people-management skills that would later serve her well in ministry and community work.
A decision to serve in ministry
While working in her professional career, she met Bishop Mosa Sono. After they were married, she made the significant decision to leave her job and devote herself fully to God's work alongside him. This transition marked a turning point in her life as she shifted her focus from a corporate career to full-time ministry and service within the church.
Overseer Sono is well known for her humility, compassion and willingness to help those in need. Her leadership is described as firm but caring, and always guided by Kingdom principles.
At Grace Bible Church, she has taken part in several community-building initiatives to support vulnerable people and strengthen local communities.
The soup kitchen that touched many lives
One of her most notable projects was a soup kitchen that she ran with a group of women from the church. This effort provided meals to community members who could not afford to feed themselves.
The soup kitchen became a practical expression of the church’s commitment to compassion and service. It reflected her belief that ministry must address both spiritual and physical needs.
