- Africa leads in health innovation, addressing aging, chronic disease, and public health challenges.
- Practical longevity and policy sessions equip experts and communities with actionable solutions.
- Summit outcomes archived and shared globally to shape Africa’s health future and research landscape.
Africa is poised to step into the global spotlight on health innovation this September. The International Longevity Summit Africa (ILSA) 2025, taking place on 10–11 September at the Sun Sibaya Hotel in Durban, South Africa, promises to redefine how the continent confronts aging, chronic disease, and public health challenges.
For too long, Africa has been cast as a latecomer in conversations about human lifespan. This summit signals that the continent is ready to lead.
Organised by Afrolongevity and the Transdisciplinary Agora for Future Discussions (TAFFDs), ILSA 2025 will bring together leading scientists, policymakers, wellness innovators, and justice-driven advocates to tackle one of the most urgent issues of our time: creating a health future that is equitable, regenerative, and rooted in African realities. Despite improvements in life expectancy, the quality of added years remains uneven across the continent.
Chronic illnesses, limited access to preventive care, and underinvestment in regenerative medicine continue to undermine health outcomes, particularly in marginalized communities. The summit aims to change that narrative by focusing on Africa-led solutions rather than importing Western models.
Practical longevity for real-world impact
A highlight of the summit will be a masterclass on practical longevity. Participants will gain hands-on exposure to scientific techniques for slowing biological aging, policy strategies for integrating longevity into national healthcare systems, and scalable public health applications suitable for clinics and communities.
The summit is designed to equip researchers, clinicians, and policymakers with tools they can implement immediately, ensuring that the conversation translates into tangible impact on the ground.
ILSA 2025 is both highly technical and broadly accessible. While it caters to experts in the field, the summit also welcomes policymakers, wellness practitioners, biotech innovators, and the public interested in healthspan and preventive care.
Hybrid participation allows international delegates and members of the African diaspora to join in real time. Beyond the event, selected research papers, keynote insights, and panel summaries will be published in the TAFFDs Journal, guaranteeing Africa’s contributions to the global longevity discourse are visible and archived for future scholarship.
Building on last year’s Lagos gathering, the Durban summit emphasizes Africa-led research, integration of aging science into national health frameworks, and sustainable partnerships among scientists, investors, and governments. A key milestone will be the launch of the Afrolongevity Action Framework, a multi-country initiative to track progress, foster accountability, and scale innovation across the continent.
ILSA 2025 is more than a conference; it is a declaration that Africa’s health future will be defined by possibility. As the continent faces demographic shifts and rising chronic disease burdens, the summit offers a blueprint for future-proofing African health systems, blending biotechnology, indigenous knowledge, and med-tech to address the root causes of biological aging. Durban will host the conversation, but its impact will resonate far beyond South Africa’s borders.
