Dr Noluthando Nematswerani is the Chief Clinical Officer of Discovery Health and a medical doctor with over 20 years of experience in healthcare.

She is passionate about making affordable, high-quality healthcare accessible and believes health is a fundamental human right.

She holds an MBChB from the University of Natal, an MPharmMed in Clinical Pharmacology, and an MSc in Clinical Epidemiology, both from the University of Pretoria.

Nematswerani sits on the Discovery Health Executive Committee and the Risk Executive Committee, and she chairs the Discovery Group Clinical Executive Committee. She also represents Discovery as a media spokesperson on clinical matters.

In her current role, she leads Health Technology Assessments, Surgical Risk Management, Clinical Policy Development, the Medicines Unit, including Drug Risk Management, and the Clinical Research Unit.

Shaping evidence-based healthcare policy

Her responsibilities include developing clinical policies, evaluating healthcare technologies and medicines, and integrating scientific evidence into healthcare decision-making.

Nematswerani’s combined expertise in medicine, clinical pharmacology, and epidemiology underpins Discovery Health’s commitment to quality care, patient safety, and sustainable healthcare delivery.

She is responsible for the overall clinical strategy for Discovery Health and its related businesses, providing leadership in clinical governance, healthcare innovation, and risk management.

Her work reflects a deep commitment to evidence-based healthcare, clinical excellence, and improving access to quality healthcare services for South Africans.

Faith and community service

A born-again Christian, Nematswerani is also a volunteer at Grace Bible Church, where she contributes to health, community and faith-based initiatives.
